Geothermal and other renewables around the world

In 2025, geothermal and other renewables made 0.3% of the world's electricity, 89.3 TWh, the same share as in 2020. That was 3.7% more electricity than in 2020. In 2000 its share was 0.3%.

Ember's "other renewables": mostly geothermal power, which uses steam and hot water from deep underground, with small amounts of tidal and wave power and, in a few countries, other renewables that national statistics do not list separately.

The countries that made the most electricity from geothermal and other renewables were the United States (18.1 TWh), Indonesia (16.7 TWh) and Turkey (10.6 TWh). Kenya relied on it most: 46% of its electricity.

Over the five years to each country's latest figures, the share of electricity from geothermal and other renewables rose most in New Zealand (from 18% to 22%), Kenya (from 43% to 46%) and Guadeloupe (from 6% to 7%).
