Oil and gas pipelines around the world
Global Energy Monitor tracks 1,555 oil and natural gas liquids (NGL) pipelines and 3,533 gas pipelines around the world, many of them listed in segments, and 1,194 terminals that import or export liquefied natural gas (LNG). Of the pipelines, 1.38 million km are operating, 75,561 km are being built and 143,835 km are proposed.
Explore the pipelines and terminals on the interactive map: filter by status, search by name or company, zoom in to see oil and gas flowing, and tap any line for its details.
Key points
- Asia has 45% of the 219,396 km of oil and gas pipelines being built or proposed.
- China has the most: 18,074 km being built and 26,406 km proposed.
- Gas pipelines make up 82% of the kilometres in development.
- 156 LNG export terminals and 210 import terminals are being built or proposed, against 127 and 247 operating.

About the data
The figures come from Global Energy Monitor's Global Oil Infrastructure Tracker (June 2026 release), which covers crude oil and NGL transmission pipelines, and its Global Gas Infrastructure Tracker (November 2025 release), which covers gas transmission pipelines and LNG terminals. Global Energy Monitor publishes them under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. Global Grid simplified the routes and measured each pipeline's length along its mapped route, so totals can differ from Global Energy Monitor's own figures. Global Grid checks for new releases every month; these figures were last updated on 11 October 2026.
Statuses: operating means in use; being built means construction has started; proposed means announced or seeking permits or money; shelved, mothballed and idle mean on hold; cancelled means the plans were dropped; retired means closed.
Download every pipeline and terminal as a spreadsheet (CSV). More detail on each project is on GEM.wiki, and the full datasets are on Global Energy Monitor's oil and gas tracker pages.
